The Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) team at Alexion is entering an exciting phase of growth and innovation, expanding capabilities to better support our global portfolio across emerging therapeutic areas and innovative modalities. This crucial role stands at the intersection of procurement excellence and R&D acceleration, directly advancing our mission to deliver transformative medicines to patients with rare diseases in more than 100 countries.

As a Global Strategic Sourcing Associate Director, you will be responsible for leading end-to-end category strategy and procurement initiatives within clinical outsourcing, working in close partnership with Therapeutic Area (TA) collaborators. In this capacity, your strategic vision, operational leadership, and ability to engage with cross-functional teams will establish and drive best-in-class strategic sourcing approaches at both study and program levels.

Job Duties& Responsibilities

  • Category Strategy & Sourcing Leadership
    Design and implement global category management plans for clinical outsourcing tailored to the evolving needs of our therapeutic areas and portfolio, ensuring alignment with Alexion’s business objectives and R&D priorities.

  • Therapeutic Area Business Partnering
    Collaborate proactively with TA business partners, clinical teams, and other cross-functional partners to lead procurement initiatives that impact study and program outcomes, integrating feedback and requirements into sourcing solutions.

  • Market Intelligence & Supplier Landscape
    Stay informed on industry trends, benchmarks, and standard methodologies to guide sourcing decisions, find opportunities and mitigate risks.

  • Data-Driven Decision Making
    Apply high-quality analytics and insights to support category management and deliver measurable outcomes.

  • Bid Management
    Organize bid defense meetings and provide comprehensive bid analyses to support project team evaluations.

  • Contract Lifecycle Oversight
    Lead negotiations and handle clinical study contracts and change orders—from scope and budget to commercial terms—through to final closeout.

  • Supplier Relationship Management
    Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to identify, raise, and resolve performance-related issues.

  • Supplier Experience Enhancement
    Cultivate strong supplier relationships that position the organization as a preferred partner.

You will need to have

  • Extensive Industry Experience
    Over 10 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with deep expertise in strategic sourcing and category management.

  • Advanced Negotiation Capabilities
    Proven track record to negotiate complex agreements with a focus on achieving mutually beneficial outcomes; recognized for persistence and creative problem-solving.

  • Strong Communication & Influence
    Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively influence partners across all levels of the organization.

  • BachelorDegree, Advanced Degree, CPSM or equivalent

  • Subject expertise in the DrugDevelopmentprocess
