At Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, we’re seeking a Director, U.S. Patient Marketing, AL Amyloidosis. This individual will lead patient marketing for the U.S. AL Amyloidosis commercial brand team, which is preparing for the potential commercialization of an investigational therapeutic within a developing rare hematology market. This role will drive the development and implementation of our strategy and tactics for patients and caregivers. This individual will report to the Senior Director, U.S. AL Amyloidosis Marketing, and will play a critical role in collaborating to drive consumer engagement and help shape our future in Amyloidosis.
You will be responsible for:
Shaping the patient brand strategy, including a patient campaign, ensuring messaging resonates in a market with unmet need
Understanding the market landscape through direct patient learning opportunities and generating insights, positioning Alexion as a dedicated and innovative partner
Leading the evolution and implementation of patient marketing strategies, messaging, and tactical execution across disease & brand campaigns
Collaborating closely with brand marketers to align marketing tactics and share insights on patient/caregiver needs and opportunities
Developing and executing innovative patient education tactical plans, including events, ambassador programs, advocacy engagement, PSP, point-of-care, social, web, CRM, programmatic, search, and print materials
Leading patient identification initiatives, supporting disease awareness and diagnosis strategies
Delivering multi-channel patient promotional platforms and optimizing the marketing mix
Leading both direct and indirect patient/DTC communication strategies
Providing strategic oversight for consumer media plan development and performance measurement
Partnering with commercial analytics and insights teams to assess current patient market dynamics, identifying opportunities to increase awareness of treatment benefit for appropriate patients, and leading primary and secondary research projects
Contributing to the annual planning process, leading the short & long-term patient strategy assessment and evolution, tactical marketing plan development, and annual budgeting
Developing and maintaining strong relationships with other functional areas and internal strategic partners (i.e., Patient Services, Patient Advocacy, Market Research, Omnichannel, Analytics, Training, Sales, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, Compliance, etc.)
Identifying appropriate key performance indicators to measure and monitor, and leading patient cross-functional team tracking & performance analysis
Managing agency partners, project timelines, resources, and patient marketing budgets
Role modelling and fostering a culture of collaboration and patient centricity
You will need to have:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific, business, or related field relevant to the role’s responsibilities
10+ years of professional experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry; can include marketing, agency or related healthcare experience
Extensive patient and/or consumer marketing digital and personal engagement experience
Healthcare media planning experience
Strong ability to manage multiple projects across functional areas, and work independently when appropriate, in teams and as a sub-team lead
Proven leadership skills and the ability to collaborate in a matrix environment
High level of interpersonal skills and highly adept in both verbal & written communication
Ability to work in a rapidly evolving and fast paced competitive environment
Ability to travel up to 20%
The duties of this role are generally conducted in the Boston Seaport office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation, to use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours
We would prefer for you to have:
Advanced degree (MS, PhD, or MBA)
Extensive pharma or biotech commercial experience, including hematology, oncology, or rare diseases
Strong track record supporting launch strategy effectiveness in specialty or rare disease markets
Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing patient persistence and adherence strategies
Prior experience managing DTC media campaigns, including TV, print, digital, social, and search, within regulated industries such as pharmaceutical or healthcare
Specialized experience with rare diseases, specialty therapeutics, or high-value biologics experience
Familiarity with applying AI tools and techniques to enhance marketing efficiency

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $180,875.20 - $271,312.80. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
