Senior Director, Hematology-Nephrology Patient Services
This is what you will do:
The Senior Director, Hematology/Nephrology, Patient Services is responsible leading the Hematology/Nephrology Patient Services Business Unit including driving the development and implementation of the US Patient Services (PS) strategy for two indications in Hematology/Nephrology: Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) and atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome aHUS), as well as planning for potential future indications and assets. This critical leadership role will be responsible for working closely with the Hematology/Nephrology Business Unit leadership to set the PS strategy (including prioritizing the patient support activities across current and future indications), manage business performance, identify, and manage relationships with 3rd parties, and identify opportunities to improve performance to better serve patients. This role will have responsibility for developing Patient Services Hematology/Nephrology strategy, and its execution via both a) the Case Management team (OneSource Support Specialists), and b) the field-based Patient Education Manager team(s). This leader is responsible for ensuring tight alignment with the business strategy to optimize opportunities to serve and educate patients in a compliant way.
An essential element of success is a demonstrated ability to influence without authority and successfully negotiate and collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., marketing, market access, commercial operations, compliance, IT, legal, regulatory, training, medical, and field leadership). This role will also have responsibility for ensuring excellence for a functional team that supports all of Patient Services (currently the Patient Services Marketing). Reporting to the Vice President, Patient Services & Strategy, this role is a high-profile position with the opportunity to make a major impact on patient lives and at Alexion.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading and continuing to evolve (based on internal and external dynamics) the US PS best-in-class strategy and operating model for the US Hematology/Nephrology business unit, which comprises key therapeutic areas for Alexion
- Managing 3rd party vendor relationships to ensure achievement of KPIs and key business objectives as well as compliance and quality
- Partnering closely with Marketing, Market Access, Patient Advocacy, Legal, Compliance, Quality, Drug Safety, Commercial Operations, IT, Training, third parties and vendors to ensure that patient support programs and messaging are effectively meeting the needs of patients
- Recommending program design innovations and leading implementation plans to senior leadership, with rationale for design selection and financial impact. Working cross-functionally to design the Patient Services model for future launches
- Leading a subset of portfolio-wide Patient Services shared services (Patient Services Marketing, but could shift over time to other shared services such as Access, CRM). Working closely with other members of Patient Services Leadership Team to drive department wide optimization
- Leading development of US strategic planning (3yr/1 yr.) for Hematology/ Nephrology PS, including tactical plans and budget allocation
- Working with Market Access, Commercial Operations, and IT to ensure effective data flow with distribution partners to effectively manage the business
- Partnering with commercial insights to conduct innovative research/analytics to identify key business dynamics, behavioral barriers, segmentation, and barriers to initiation and adherence

You will need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or business field
- 15+ years related experience in the biotechnology industry
- Significant commercial experiences, with demonstrated success in patient services leadership positions being important
- Proven, consistent history of high performance regardless of position or company.
- Understanding of compliance regulations and guidance governing copay and patient assistance programs, and commercial and government payer benefit interpretation
- Launch experience and/or experience in high growth areas
- High learning agility and nimbleness are critical
- Prior experience managing teams
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and highly adept in both verbal & written communication
- The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analyses, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.
We would prefer for you to have:
- MBA preferred
- Hematology/Nephrology experience
- Rare disease/high-value biologics experience is important, but not essential
- Broad base of experiences in patient services, field leadership, analytics, vendor management, marketing, market research, sales, and/or medical affairs is welcomed
