Co-op Scientist, Downstream Process Development

This is what you will do:

The Downstream Process Development Co-op Scientist is responsible for performing assigned experimental and/or theoretical tasks to support the development of Alexion’s therapeutic protein candidates. The co-op scientist will learn and apply principles of biologics downstream process development in one or more of the following: chromatography, robotics and automation, and development analytical support.

You will be responsible for:

  • Literature searches on the project to learn about current developments
  • Training on relevant equipment and systems
  • Executing experimental studies, with guidance, to optimize a process and/or develop tools for use in downstream process development
  • Working with the Downstream Process Development team and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet the needs of the study
  • Documenting study execution and results in notebooks, presentations and/or technical reports
  • Communicating all findings to relevant business units

You will need to have:

  • BS or MS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university
  • 0-2 years experience working in relevant laboratory setting
  • Desire and ability to learn new techniques and use problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an lab environment.  As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: work comfortably in a lab environment including bending, standing, working with small parts, reaching, kneeling

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Experience with protein purification, Tecan or other robotic pipetting instruments, experimental design
  • Experience with MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Basic lab skills (i.e. pipetting, weighing components, pH/conductivity measurements)
