This is what you will do:

The Director, US Health Economics and Outcomes Research (US HEOR) leads the dissemination of real world evidence to external stakeholders at targeted US payers & health systems in support of the reimbursement landscape of Alexion’s products. Through the partnership with cross-functional teams, this individual is responsible for implementing US HEOR strategies that demonstrate the value and corresponding scientific evidence of Alexion products for payers, patients, clinical institutions, and other key decision-makers.

The Director, US HEOR partners with and acts as a field TA insight lead to US HEOR RWE, Market Access, and US Commercial teams.  An estimated 60% of the US HEOR Director’s role will be dedicated to direct interactions with external stakeholders (live and virtual), with 40% of the role spent in collaboration with internal Alexion cross-functional partners.

You will be responsible for:

Utilizing in-depth knowledge of disease area and portfolio strategy in combination with a strong understanding of the principles of health economics and outcomes research to support the value of Alexion’s products across the portfolio.  Implementing US HEOR strategies that demonstrate the value and corresponding scientific evidence of Alexion products at targeted payers, clinical institutions, and other key decision making entities within an assigned geography.  Accountable for the following:

  • Builds collaborative relationships with cross-functional leaders across Commercial, Market Access & Medical Affairs organizations to maximize evidence generation efforts and sustain product access & reimbursement
  • Functions as a field-based insight lead within an assigned therapeutic area
  • Builds strong business relationships with population health decision makers at targeted payers and health systems within an assigned geography.
  • Actively contributes to account planning with cross-functional Alexion account teams, identifying areas where healthcare economic information can be utilized to support patient access.
  • Continually gathers insights from field colleagues to uncover market access issues, identify access/demand hurdles and fulfill evidence gaps.
  • Leads the field-based evidence gap analysis within an assigned therapeutic area, disseminating these insights to RWE TA Leads.

Ensures Alexion maintains external credibility and relationships to validate research findings and communications. Accountable for the following:

  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with key experts, influencers, and customer segments to foster and maintain Alexion’s credibility to support the value and reimbursement of Alexion products
  • Delivers the presentation of disease related information and healthcare economic information to population health decision makers at targeted payers and health systems within an assigned geography
  • Provides mentorship for junior members of the US HEOR team
  • Provides HEOR field-based leadership for a specified therapeutic area, leading insight generation and information sharing with HEOR RWE TA Leads.

You will need to have:

  • Doctoral degree in science or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years prior experience in a medical field-facing role, with prior HEOR field experience preferred
  • Thorough understanding of RWE generation and the applicability of various US datasets and data collection methods
  • Understanding of the US market access landscape and healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of the drug development and commercialization process
  • Recognized as a strong leader with a proven track record of effectively managing, influencing and developing people including those who are not direct reports: demonstrated ability to lead and deliver results in a matrix environment, and solve complex issues that cross multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of effectiveness as a team player; excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent project leader who can effectively manage multiple competing priorities to completion
  • Excellent problem solving skills and a strong collaborative mindset
  • Global mindset and ability to work with multicultural teams
  • Flexibility and adaptability to internal and external change
  • The duties of this role are primarily conducted in a field environment.  As is typical of a field-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to travel by public transportation, automobile, train, or plane; work comfortably in a clinical setting; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; problem solve; engage in complex and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

  • Experience and knowledge in rare disease conditions

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $188,000 - $283,000. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
