Senior Director, Payer Contracting Strategy

This is what you will do:

The Senior Director, Payer Contracting Strategy will be responsible for developing the US payer contracting strategies across the Alexion portfolio of products. This includes determining the level of discounting by brand, what levels of access to contract for, and which payers to prioritize for contracting. This this is a field based role and reports to the Executive Director, US Strategic Contracting & Pricing.

You will be responsible for:

  • Deciding which payers prioritize for contracting, for what levels access and what are appropriate rebate ranges
  • Coordinating with the Access Strategy and Marketing team to ensure alignment on brand access goals
  • Selecting the appropriate brands for contracting to optimize market positioning and patient access
  • Working with contract analytics to develop a robust framework for evaluating potential agreements, defining contracting triggers, and expected ROI
  • Reviewing pre- and post-deal analyses to gain insights into the historical effectiveness of deals across brands and customer segments.
  • Engaging across commercial and government channels and navigating within both the medical and pharmacy benefits.
  • Identifying value-based agreement opportunities in collaboration with strategic pricing, account management and access strategy teams
  • Working with contract analytics to identify analyses to drive customer insights and deepen customer understanding

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent in Life Sciences, Business, or a related field
  • 7-10+ years of related and/or transferable experience in a biotech or pharma company
  • Knowledge of the US payer marketplace as well as subject matter expertise of payer contracting strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex business challenges recommendations effectively and concisely to senior leaders
  • Demonstrated experience developing and leading the implementation of U.S. market access strategies
  • Project management experience and excellent analytical, strategic thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use excellent influencing and negotiating skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership skills
  • High level of demonstrated experience utilizing Microsoft suite (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to use excellent influencing and negotiating skills
  • Ability to execute individually and by leading cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence in the face of challenging goals
  • Explore innovative approaches in evolving landscape
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 20% overnight travel
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. We would prefer for you to have:

  • MBA, MPH, or other advanced degree
  • BioPharma/Pharmaceutical or Biotech product launch experience
  • Experience in payer contracting for rare disease therapies
